Booking a dentist appointment online

The easiest way to an appointment is via our online booking system. There you see the available time slots and choose yourself — around the clock, including evenings and weekends. A confirmation arrives by email, and you receive a reminder before the appointment.

If you prefer to speak to someone or your concern is unclear, call us: +41 44 363 90 90, Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 18:00. For a first appointment it is enough to tell us what it is about — we will schedule the appropriate duration.

How often should you go to the dentist?

For most adults: a check-up once a year. We look at the teeth, gums and jaw and detect developing problems while they are still small and inexpensive to treat.

Professional teeth cleaning is independent of this and depends on your individual risk. Once or twice a year is common; with periodontitis, smoking or during aligner treatment, more frequently can make sense. We recommend the interval based on the findings, not as a blanket rule.

What happens at a check-up appointment

  • A short conversationAny complaints, changes or questions? New medications or conditions belong here too.
  • ExaminationWe check teeth, gums, jaw joint and oral mucosa — including a check of existing fillings and crowns.
  • X-ray if neededX-rays show what is not visible from the outside — such as decay between the teeth or the bone structure.
  • Findings and next stepsYou learn what is fine, what should be monitored and what needs treatment — with a cost estimate before anything is done.

A pure check-up appointment usually takes about 30 minutes. If a cleaning is added, allow around an hour.

What a dentist appointment costs

Our prices

Annual check-up (incl. X-ray)CHF 150
Professional teeth cleaningCHF 190
Basic health insuranceusually no coverage

In Switzerland, adults generally pay for dental services themselves — basic insurance only covers certain illnesses and accidents. Supplementary dental insurance can cover part of it. For larger treatments you receive a written cost estimate in advance.

Short-notice appointment or pain

With acute toothache, a chipped edge or a lost filling, you should not wait for the next free online slot. Give us a call — we keep time slots free for urgent cases and usually find a solution the same or the next day.

Tooth knocked out? Every minute counts

In a dental accident, the first half hour determines the prognosis. What to do immediately is in our article Dental accident — first aid. In this case call us directly: +41 44 363 90 90.

Cancelling or rescheduling an appointment

Things come up — that is normal. The only important thing is that you let us know at least 24 hours in advance, by phone or email. Then we can give the slot to someone else who urgently needs an appointment.

In the case of later cancellation or non-attendance, we may charge a cancellation fee of CHF 100, as the reserved time can no longer be allocated otherwise. We of course take justified exceptional cases into account. The details are set out in our terms and conditions.

If the appointment causes discomfort

If you already feel uneasy when booking, please mention it when making the appointment. We then schedule more time and go at the pace you need — the first appointment can simply be a getting-to-know without treatment. More on this in our article for anxious patients.

Your dentist appointment at House of Smiles in Zurich

Our practice is at Löwenstrasse 16 at Löwenplatz, a few minutes' walk from Zurich main station and easy to reach by tram, train and car. New patients pay for the services of the first appointment directly on site; after that, billing works as usual by invoice.

For the first appointment, please bring your insurance card and — if available — a list of your medications. You complete the medical history form before treatment; take a few minutes for it, as the information is important for safe treatment.
