What power whitening is
Power whitening (also called in-office whitening) is a professional brightening done directly at the practice. A highly concentrated whitening gel is applied in a controlled way and left to take effect — the gums are carefully covered beforehand. The advantage: a visible result in a single appointment.
The procedure step by step
- Check-up & cleaningWe check whether the teeth are suitable for whitening. A professional cleaning beforehand improves the result.
- ProtectionThe gums and lips are covered so that only the teeth are treated.
- WhiteningThe gel is applied and takes effect over several short intervals — around 60–90 minutes in total.
- ConclusionRemove the gel, discuss the result, give recommendations for the first few days.
Realistic expectations
The result is usually clearly visible, but varies individually — depending on the starting shade and the type of discolouration. Important: crowns, fillings and veneers do not whiten along with the teeth. If such restorations are in the visible area, we discuss this beforehand.
For the first one to two days, avoid strongly colouring foods — coffee, black tea, red wine, curry, berries. This stabilises the result.
Is it painful?
Temporary tooth sensitivity may occur and usually subsides within one to two days. We choose the concentration and duration so that the treatment remains well tolerated, and give you recommendations if you are prone to sensitive teeth.
Our conclusion
Power whitening is the fastest way to brighter teeth — gentle when carried out professionally. Whether it is suitable for you is something we clarify in a short check-up beforehand.
This article is for general information only and does not replace individual dental advice. Whether and which treatment is right for you is something we determine in a personal consultation based on your individual situation.
