When does the effect set in?
Unlike what is often expected, masseter Botox does not work immediately. The relaxing effect builds up over a few days and is usually fully noticeable after one to two weeks. So a little patience is part of it.
How long does the effect last?
The effect is temporary and usually lasts several months, after which muscle activity gradually returns. A top-up is therefore common. With repeated treatment, the muscle can become calmer over time, so the intervals are sometimes longer.
Possible side effects
When carried out professionally, the treatment is considered well tolerated. Above all, temporary, harmless reactions are possible:
- Slight tenderness or a small bruise at the injection site
- An unfamiliar chewing sensation during the adjustment phase, which settles
- Very rarely a temporary asymmetry — the reason why professional placement is crucial
Before every treatment we examine the jaw and muscles and clarify whether masseter Botox is suitable for you. This is exactly what reduces the risk of unwanted effects.
What masseter Botox is not
Botox treats the symptom, not necessarily the cause. If stress or a misalignment is behind it, that should be taken into account — a combination with a grinding splint is often advisable. When which variant fits is explained in the article grinding splint or masseter Botox?.
