What is crowding?
Crowding is when the teeth have too little space in the jaw and therefore push over one another or tip out of line. The result is crooked, overlapping teeth — usually in the front, where it is most visible.
What consequences can crowding have?
Crowded teeth are more than an aesthetic issue — they make daily care more difficult:
- More difficult cleaning — plaque is more easily left behind in the tight gaps.
- Higher risk of caries and gum problems — hard-to-reach spots encourage caries and inflammation.
- Uneven wear — unevenly loaded teeth wear down inconsistently.
How is crowding corrected?
Crowding is one of the most rewarding indications for clear aligners: the individually made trays align the teeth step by step and restore a harmonious row of teeth. Planning is done with AI support based on a 3D scan — you see your result in advance as a simulation.
When should crowding be treated?
In children and adolescents, growth can be used to create space — an early assessment makes sense (see orthodontics for children). But crooked teeth can also be corrected very well in adults; teeth remain movable at any age.
