Both beautify the smile — but how?
Both composite bonding and veneers improve the shape, colour and small flaws of the front teeth. The big difference lies in the material and the procedure: with bonding, tooth-coloured composite (resin) is modelled directly on the tooth. Veneers are wafer-thin ceramic shells made in a laboratory and bonded onto the tooth.
The direct comparison
Composite (resin), modelled directly on the tooth. Usually one session, usually without grinding (minimally invasive, often reversible). Cheaper and easy to repair — but slightly less colour-stable and robust. From CHF 600 per tooth.
Ceramic, made in a laboratory. Usually minimal, irreversible enamel removal, several appointments. But very durable and colour-stable for many years. From CHF 1’900 per tooth.

Durability & care
Ceramic veneers are more durable and colour-stable — they practically do not discolour. Composite bonding can discolour slightly over time through coffee, red wine or nicotine and wear faster — but it can be touched up and repaired easily. Good oral hygiene and regular polishing during dental hygiene keep both variants looking good for a long time.
Bonding is usually possible without grinding (minimally invasive, often reversible). Classic veneers usually require minimal, irreversible enamel removal. Those who want to touch as little as possible are better served with bonding or non-prep veneers.
Which suits whom?
- Rather composite bonding — for smaller corrections (gaps, edges, shape), a limited budget or if you don't (yet) want to commit permanently.
- Rather veneers — for larger transformations, several teeth or when maximum durability and colour stability matter.
- A combination is often sensible too — we plan this individually.
Our advice
There is no blanket 'better' — only what's right for your starting situation, your goal and your budget. We advise honestly which solution makes sense for you. More on our pages about composite bonding and veneers — or arrange a consultation at our practice at Löwenplatz in Zurich.
